Apple likely to enhance Maps for UK & Ireland with iOS 14
Apple Maps users in the UK and Ireland may soon get to experience the far more detailed Apple Maps data the company has promised to introduce there since it began improving Maps in the U.S.
Maps getting more detail, more data
These new maps offer deeper detail of the areas they cover. They make it easier to find smaller patches of green and provide more detailed road maps, for example. You’ll also find parking, airport maps and more.
The information has been pieced together in part thanks to those fleets of LiDAR-toting Apple Maps cars that have been touring nations worldwide for the last few years.

Apple announced plans to extend these more detailed Maps views to the UK, Ireland and Canada at WWDC 2020. It hasn’t committed to a data, and at present these new views are only being tested, so it’s possible users won’t see anything of these tests until the Maps launch.
Coming with iOS 14?
It is worth noting that extending these new maps views across the U.S. took around a year though Justin O’Beirne, who tracks Apple’s Maps changes, observes the company traditionally takes 16-49 days testing new Maps improvements in public before launch.
If this is the case, it suggests the new Maps views may be a pleasant enhancement for introduction in or around the public launch of iOS 14 this fall. In related news, Apple introduced Look Around to four cities in Japan earlier this month – will Look Around also be part of the package for UK and Irish users?
