Reality check: Sure looks like people want a new MacBook Pro

Jonny Evans

Watching Apple since 1999. I don't say what they should do. I say what they might do. They sometimes do.

How the heck do you expect people to read your crappy, low contrast, grey text?!!!!!!!

Stop trying to be fashionable, and focus on LEGIBILITY. Geeeeze.

    Rant over, Ted

A Pro moniker doth not a professional MacBook make.

I’ve been using (and buying) Macs since the 1980’s. I currently own a Late 2013 MBPr and an early 2016 MacBook.
    1. I do not, repeat DO NOT, believe anything Phil Schiller OR Apple says anymore. Jony Ive is a one-trick pony who has his best work well behind him.
    2. I was ready (indeed eager) to buy a new MBP but I will NOT because (a) no MagSafe, (b) no USB1/2 port (c) lousy keyboard and (d) too expensive for minimal gains in performance.
The MacBook works for me because I have the MBPr to do the MANY things I do with USB. As well, the MacBook keyboard is truly awful and I use the MBPr keyboard to do ANY extended typing.
IMHO the criticism of this latest crop of “Pro” models is completely warranted and directly on-point.
Apple has become an echo chamber when it comes to HEARING what it’s long-time customers want i.e. Schiller talks to Cook who talks to Ive and their echoes reinforce their internal thinking to the total exclusion of the needs/wants of the customer base.
I probably won’t switch to MS or Dell or similar but I am NOT buying what Apple is peddling this time around.

Surely you don’t mean 15 million? A big quarter for mac would be 5 million.

  5. Gregg Thurman says:

Only the ignorant fail to recognize brilliant marketing and confuse it instead with being arrogant or worse, uncaring of its customers.

Stripping out ports that will soon be dead everywhere is neither stupid or uncaring, its just tough love and forces way to many that sit on the technological sidelines to step up.

The manner that Apple introduced the MacBook Pro was brilliant. In exchange for the loss of a couple million dollars on a bunch of dongles that won’t see much revenue generation after 2016 anyway, Apples got hundreds of millions in free marketing/advertising.

i wish I was as stupid as Apple’s critics accuse Apple management to be.

(Jonny dump the grey type. My older eyes can’t see it. A very black type would be nice.)

  6. Gregg Thurman says:

“Now it looks like Apple will sell around 15 million plus of the new Macs by the end of the year. ”

Assuming you meant until the end of 2016 that would be a good trick, considering that Apple hasn’t sold more than 6 million computers in a single quarter EVER.
