Apple’s latest Underdogs ad shows life when the blue screen strikes

A detail from the ad
Apple has taken a big push at Microsoft’s insecurity with the latest in its series of entertaining “Underdogs” ads, which could easily be seen as showing us what happened when the frailty of Microsoft’s operating systems was laid bare within the CrowdStrike debacle last year.
Frankly, Apple has a point.
Windows is frail
The company has never had a security problem as serious as this one turned out to be – even when the internet was new, Apple’s browser was secured against the zillions of infections that afflicted PCs. But Apple isn’t so cruel as to name its OS competitor in the ad, even though it could have done.
The ad is called ‘Blue Screen of Death’. The story describes a scenario in which PCs worldwide suddenly stopped working, with everything from air traffic control to advertising screens in stores failing.
It tells the story of the Underdogs and what happens to them when the Blue Screen of Death takes place – which, of course, doesn’t impact them because of which they win the business contract they are chasing for.
If that sounds like what happened with CrowdStrike, that’s because it is – but this would not have happened on Apple’s platforms because the company has locked off access to those parts of tis code.
“There’s no security like Mac security,” the ad concludes.
There’s also a helpful link to Apple’s recently updated enterprise security page, which points out that kernel-level protection is designed to safeguard your system against breaches, outages, and unauthorized access.”
