The long bank holiday has slowed the news cycle, but here’s the last 24 hours of Apple news highlights.

MacBook Neo slips

After weeks leading on the Amazon US laptop sales charts, Apple’s MacBook Neo has finally lost its throne. It is now the second biggest-selling laptop, just behind the 13-inch M5 MacBook Air. This suggests the initial huge surge of demand for the product may have evened out, though also may reflect demand modelling in reaction to supply constraints.

iPhone to support Google Cast?

iOS 27 may allow users to use alternative casting options, like Google Cast, alongside native AirPlay to bring Apple in line with Europe’s Digital Markets Act. You can already cast content from an iPhone to a non-Apple display through apps that integrate Google’s Cast SDK, but this should let you cast all kinds of content.

iPhone EOL rumours

Leaks suggest iOS 27 will require an iPhone 12 or later, and iPhone SE 3 or later, effectively dropping support for the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, and iPhone SE 2nd generation. Many of the more advanced AI tools in iOS 27 will require at least an iPhone 15 to run, it’s claimed.
