The Core: Apple TLDR (June 2)

Hype for WWDC 2026 continues to consume ALL the oxygen. Apple has even released a downloadable wallpaper with a dark colour scheme and glowing Apple logo to promote its upcoming developer event.
Holy launch windows iPhone
Apple seems serious about its plan to stop having one big iPhone launch each year – it’s going to do this by having two big launches, instead. The latest reports repeat claims Apple won’t introduce the standard iPhone 18 until 2027 with the 18 Pro models set to appear this fall.
Foldy, mouldy, metal
The foldable iPhone Ultra is also scheduled for this fall. In the last 24-hours we learned it will feature an innovative liquid metal hinge (as anticipated). Apple has also shipped prototypes to carriers around the world for testing! It’s going to have clever split screen features, also.
Trust is currency
Blink if you missed it, but a recently-published SmartTech Research survey tells us that 60.5% of consumers think Apple entering the foldables market would make them more confident in folding devices.
Yes, batteries can be fun
The leak meister known as Digital Chat Station has returned, this time claiming to share the battery capacities for future iPhone 18 Pro models. If true it means battery life remains consistent as before, with a little more battery squeezed inside US models than Chinese.
Microsoft’s special ways
Microsoft is about to break Office 2019 on Mac and iOS devices in a big way – no editing, saving, or new documents for you, unless you pay up (or use its web apps).
Apple Watches be like
Apple Intelligence integration. Future Apple Watch models may also use OLED display tech for improved power efficiency, said The Elec.
The incredible M1 MacBook Air
Almost six years on and the M1 MacBook Air remains incredible value. This is a good thing for Apple.
Split bills
Does anyone actually do this? A new iOS 27 feature will let you split bills by taking a photo of the receipt, requesting amounts and using Apple Cash.
Big in Latin America
iPhone shipments increased 8% in Latin America in Q1, claims Counterpoint Research.
Big in India
Apple is important to India. So much so that India’s government has appointed Apple’s India MD, Virat Bhatia, to the nation’s Board of Trade.
Silo season three is coming
Apple shipped its final trailer for the third series of popular Apple TV show, Silo, which hits screens July 3.
