Apple kills a plague of bugs, updates all the things
Apple has shipped out bug-eradication point updates for all devices: iPad, iPhone, Mac, Watch, Apple TV, HomePod – it has also announced that Apple Business Essentials has left beta, which I discuss in a lot of detail here.
Update everything today
Apple has published the following updates:
- macOS Monterey 12.3.1
- iOS 15.4.1,
- iPadOS 15.4.1,
- tvOS 15.4.1, Homepod
- watchOS 8.5.1.
Bug fixes are the main features of these updates, which, among other things, should help finally fix that annoying Bluetooth update that has been plaguing some M-series Macs. What follows is a very swift tour of highlights (there aren’t many) from these updates:
macOS Monterey 12.3.1
This introduces a fix to make Bluetooth controllers connect more reliably to Macs, and also targets a bug that could cause USB-C or Thunderbolt external displays to not turn on properly. The update also kills two important security vulnerabilities.
iOS 15.4.1 and iPadOS 15.4.1
Not a great deal in this update bar bug fixes – though you’ll be pleased those battery life issues appear to have been resolved by the company.
tvOS 15.4.1, HomePod
Bug fixes and security updates, hurray.
watchOS 8.5.1
This update also only adds security updates and fixes bugs.
Apple Business Essentials
Apple Business Essentials is I think quietly Apple’s most important current product. Not only does the service give smaller businesses an equal chance to deliver effective IT support as larger entities enjoy, but it also supports the growing move to adopt Apple in the enterprise.
Forrester Senior analyst, Andrew Hewitt told me:
“Apple Business Essentials has good value for SMB customers that want to adopt Apple devices. The combined management, deployment, support, and security services are especially valuable for SMB customers, as these customers often don’t have the staffing to support these services on their own like enterprises do.”
