Apple TV+ to run Sidney Poitier documentary Sept 23

Sidney Poitier as himself
I’m very excited to learn Apple TV+ has filmed a documentary to share the life and legacy of the great actor, filmmaker and activist, Sidney Poitier. The documentary will screen on September 23 and seems well worth watching.

Apple says the following about the movie on its YouTube site:
“From producer Oprah Winfrey and directed by Reginald Hudlin, the documentary explores legendary Sidney Poitier and his legacy as an iconic actor, filmmaker and activist at the center of Hollywood and the Civil Rights Movement.”
It includes interviews with Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, Robert Redford, Lenny Kravitz, Barbra Streisand, Spike Lee and many others, the film was produced by Derik Murray, in collaboration with the Poitier family.
America’s first Black movie star, matinee idol and Oscar winner for Best Actor — Poitier was also a powerful civil and social rights activist, and close friend of Harry Belafonte. You can read more about those adventures here.

“If I’m remembered for having done a few good things, and if my presence here has sparked some good energies, that’s plenty,” Poitier famously said.
I look forward to watching the movie and I’d be very unsurprised to find it wins an award in the next round of critic’s gongs.
