Taiwan carriers claim iPhones 18 Pro preorders sold out in 2 minutes

Apple Store is down today as Apple opens up to pre-orders for the new iPhones. It looks like there may be some pent-up demand, as the first reports from Taiwan show the new models sold out within just two minutes of preorders opening there.
There is some oddness to this data as official pre-orders don’t begin until later on today, but I imagine some carrier partners have other arrangements.

There’s also other interesting data in the report.
- Taiwan Mobile, which has also begun taking preorders, said preorders for the iPhone 18 Pro series surged nearly 200 percent compared with those for the iPhone 17 Pro series.
- Citing a survey, Chunghwa Telecom said 70 percent of Apple fans favored the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max, with 45 percent saying they would choose the 512GB model.
- 46 percent of them preferred the Glacier color
- 26 percent favored Burgundy.
- Taiwan Mobile said the iPhone 18 Pro Max was the most popular model, accounting for about 50 percent of the new iPhone preorders.A Chunghwa Telecom survey found 60 percent of potential iPhone Duo customers preferred White color, with the rest heading to Night Sky.
I imagine we’ll hear more stories like this in the run up to the physical introduction of the products on September 18.
