OpenAI makes a grab at Sky as it aims to lead AI on the Mac

OpenAI wants to make sure its AI drives the world’s best AI PCs
OpenAI can see the direction of travel, which is why it continues work to take a dominant space on the world’s best AI PCs, which we call Macs.
With this in mind, it has followed up the introduction of its own AI powered Mac browser with the surprise purchase of Software Applications Incorporated (SAI), a Mac-focused AI company led by some of the same people who created Workflow, which became Apple’s Shortcuts app.
Reach for the Sky
SAI makes a Mac app called Sky, a powerful natural language interface for the Mac that aims to enhance automation and improve workflows on the platform and allegedly goes further than Apple has so far managed to bring to market.
Nick Turley, OpenAI’s Vice President & Head of ChatGPT: “We’re building a future where ChatGPT doesn’t just respond to your prompts, it helps you get things done. Sky’s deep integration with the Mac accelerates our vision of bringing AI directly into the tools people use every day.
“With Sky, AI works alongside you, whether you’re writing, planning, coding, or managing your day. Sky understands what’s on your screen and can act using your apps. We will bring Sky’s deep macOS integration and product craft into ChatGPT, and all members of the team will join OpenAI.”
What it does
“We’ve always wanted computers to be more empowering, customizable, and intuitive. With LLMs, we can finally put the pieces together. That’s why we built Sky, an AI experience that floats over your desktop to help you think and create. We’re thrilled to join OpenAI to bring that vision to hundreds of millions of people,” said Ari Weinstein of SAI, who was one of the co-founders of Workflow.
