How to add a Covid Pass to Apple Wallet in the UK

Apple has made it possible to add Covid passes from health authorities to Apple Wallet. This makes it easy to verify your vaccine status, which will become even more important as we struggle with the latest variant of the disease.

How to add a Covid Pass to Apple Wallet

While the way these systems works differs in different nations and different states, because health authorities may have varying systems to handle the process, we felt that the way it works in the UK NHS would be useful to everyone.

Here is how to add the pass when working with health authorities that support this, using the NHS as an example.

• Open the NHS app once installed and setup
• Tap on the NHS Covid Pass item.
• Select ‘Domestic’
• Now tap ‘Add to Apple Wallet’
• Then tap Add when the pass appears. You’ll now see it with all your other cards in your Wallet.

Where do I get a COVID Pass in the UK?

If you are a UK resident you’ll need to download the main NHS app. This is not the same as the NHS COVID-19 check-in app. When you have installed the app you’ll need to login with your NHS number and will also be required to prove who you are – just follow the step by step instructions. Once this task is done you’ll be able to access your health records.

Assuming you are double-vaccinated (or more recently, treble-vaccinated) you’ll then be able to get a COVID Pass. You may also be able to get the pass if you take a negative test, but this may change in the current crisis.

Reflecting the length of time it takes until protection is active, the COVID Pass won’t appear in the app until around two weeks after your second/third jab. In the UK, you’ll have to re-add it to your Apple Wallet each month. The NHS COVID Pass lets you share your coronavirus (COVID-19) status records or test COVID-19 status in a secure way.

In sone EU nations, the Digital Covid Pass is available which lets you create a digital copy of your EU Covid Certificateand store it safely in your mobile wallet.

Where do I get a COVID Pass in the US?

You can securely download and store your verifiable COVID-19 vaccination information in the Health app and add a vaccination card to Wallet.

To do so you’ll need the QR code provided by your COVID-19 vaccination or tet center to add your records, just point your camera at the QR code and tap the Health app notification when it appears. Then tap the Add to Wallet & Health item.

You can also do this using a downloadable file given to you by your provider. Tap the download link and then choose Add to Wallet & Health to add the record to the Health app and Wallet app.
