Apple makes iPad repairs a Self Service option
It took a while, but finally it has happened – now you can fix your own iPad, if you have the skill and courage.
That’s because Apple has made iPad parts available on Self Service Repair.
It means the most technically proficient iPad owners can fix their own devices using legitimate tools, repair manuals, parts, and Apple Diagnostics. The company also introduced the Genuine Parts Distributor program — available in the US and Europe — to provide repair businesses that do not have a direct service relationship with Apple access to genuine Apple parts via third party distributors.
What Apple said
“At Apple, our goal is to create the world’s greatest products that last as long as possible,” said Brian Naumann, Apple’s vice president of AppleCare. “With today’s announcement, we’re excited to expand our repair services to more customers, enabling them to further extend the life of their products — all without compromising safety, security, or privacy.”
Self Service Repair for iPad
iPad owners now get access to repair manuals, genuine Apple parts, Apple Diagnostics troubleshooting sessions, tools, and rental toolkits. These are the same tools and parts as made available at Apple Stores and Authorized Service Providers. Beginning May 29, 2025, with support for iPad Air (M2 and later), iPad Pro (M4), iPad mini (A17 Pro), and iPad (A16), the launch features components including displays, batteries, cameras, and external charging ports.
With the addition of iPad, the Self Service Repair Store now supports 65 Apple products, and will expand into Canada later this year, making the service available in 34 nations.
Genuine Parts Distributor program
Apple also shared additional details of its Genuine Parts Distributor program. This is designed to ensure repairers that lack a direct Apple relationship can still get hold of bona fide parts and information for repair.
It means independent mobile repair professionals can order genuine Apple service parts and components via third-party distributors, including MobileSentrix in the U.S., and MobileSentrix and Mobileparts.shop in Europe.
Genuine Parts Distributor offers a wide range of Apple parts for iPhone repairs, including displays, batteries, and charging ports, with iPad parts also about to be made available. You’ll find more about the scheme right here.
