Windows playing catch-up to Mac performance, report

You really do get what you pay for when you buy a MacBook, which seems to deliver performance far beyond similarly priced Windows systems, according to a series of tests conducted by PhoneBuff.

These tests harmonize well with other recent claims, including from The Verge. They suggest that the MacBook Air absolutely transcends the performance of a Surface Laptop equipped with 6GB memory.

That’s even when handling Microsoft’s own software, the report claims, with Word performing twice as fast as the base level M5 MacBook Air as it does on a Surface Laptop running 16GB RAM and a Snapdragon X2 chip. 

This wasn’t the only difference. The Mac trounced the Windows 11 system on file extraction, Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop, even gaming as the Mac even delivered more fps when frame generation and upscaling were turned on.

Now, it’s probably not a particularly good thing to rely on one opinion to prove the superiority of today’s Macs to similarly priced Window 11 systems, but PhoneBuff is far from being unique.

After all, just months ago The Verge tested systems and found them sluggish, as reported in a piece called “Even Microsoft couldn’t make Windows 11 work well on 8GB of RAM.”

The takeaway?

Beleaguered Windows has work to do to catch up with Apple, and as recent sales data with Mac sales spiking while the industry shrinks, PC consumers know it and are switching to Mac.
