What are the important improvements in Matter 1.4.2?

Look out for this branding on smart stuff
Just in time for the next iPhone, the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA) has published Matter 1.4.2, a maintenance release designed to fix reliability and performance issues in the internationally agreed smartphone standard.
The big enhancement in this standards release is indeed the standard itself, which works to ensure that the devices you use work in the same way across all the supported home control ecosystems – Apple Home, or any other Matter platform. There are some other highlights to the release:
Matter 1.4.2 introduces support for Wi-Fi-only commissioning using Wi-Fi Unsynchronized Service Discovery (USD). This update enables devices to be onboarded to Matter ecosystems over Wi-Fi without requiring Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) radios. Once hub devices that support this are widely available this should improve onboarding of new devices.
Improved Scenes Management:
Smoother, faster, and more reliable scene activation with improved coordination between devices.
Vendor ID (VID) Verification:Â
Matter Controllers can now cryptographically verify that the Admins installed on a device are genuinely from the vendors they claim. This strengthens trust in Multi-Admin environments and prevents potential impersonation attacks by bad actors.
Access Restriction Lists (ARLs):
For network infrastructure devices such as routers and access points (known in Matter as Network Infrastructure Managers or NIMs), ARLs provide a mechanism to restrict access to sensitive settings and data to only trusted, verified Controllers
Certificate Revocation Lists (CRLs):
Using Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), Matter now supports standard mechanisms for revoking unused or compromised Device Attestation Certificates.
Efficient Network Communication (Quieter Reporting):
Matter 1.4.2 extends “Quieter Reporting,” which basically means less noise on your network as devices won’t clog it up with unnecessary reporting. The CSA has also improved other aspects of network management to protect against network performance issues.
New feature updates
New features become available automatically, without requiring a device reboot or setup from scratch.
Consistent Endpoint Unique IDs
No more duplicate devices or confusion when reconfiguring devices or updating their connections to Matter.
Better robot vacuum cleaner support
Easier to manage, and more predictable support for these devices from multiple manufacturers.
