UK Apple Watch owners can now use an eSIM on Three
New things you can do with your Apple Watch
UK readers may be pleased to learn that UK mobile operator, Three, now offers an eSIM for Apple Watchunder a new £7/month plan. The deal means you can leave your iPhone at home and still get all the connectivity – and calls – from your Watch.
Three finally catches up
Like most operators, Three’s deal requires that you have an existing iPhone subscription with the company – your iPhone also needs to be on the network. If that’s you, you’ll be able to access the Smartwatch Pairing Plan.
It brings Three up to speed with other operators, O2, Vodafone and EE, which have offered eSIMs for some time. (EE being the first and for a very long time, only, Apple Watch eSIM provider).
How this works
The plan, which will cost you £7 per month but is available for free for the first six months, makes use of the data allowance of your iPhone. It’s a monthly term plan.
To enable this on your Apple Watch, you should do the following, assuming you are on Three.
- Open the Watch app on your iPhone.
- Open Mobile Data

- You should see a page with Set Up Mobile Data
- A page will appear explaining what this means.
- Tap Set Up Mobile Data to be directed to the Three website where you must enable the service.
When Mobile Data is setup, you’ll be able to continue to make and take calls and access apps using mobile data on our Apple Watch. Essentially, you’ll be able to leave your phone at home, which is great if you’re jogging.
watchOS9 will bring more customizable watch faces, an enhanced Workout app, new sleep management tools and a built-in medication tracker, Apple said at WWDC 22.
One more thing
NB: One thing I am a little curious about is that this means some of the bigger UK mobile operators now support eSIM on Apple devices. Might this be the harbinger of something?
