Proton launches private Workspace/M365 alternative for enterprise

One door shuts another opens. Today, Switzerland’s Proton introduced a compelling alternative to Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, and a potential supplement for iCloud users seeking security in the UK.
Proton Workspace combines Proton’s entire ecosystem into a single, privacy and security‑first offering, including critical cybersecurity tools like VPN and password management. It also brings in a range of exciting new services, including its new end-to-end encrypted video conferencing solution, Proton Meet.
The company says that it now has over 100’000 enterprise customers using existing products such as Proton Mail, Calendar, Drive/Docs/Sheets, VPN, password management, and Lumo, it’s privacy first AI. Proton Workspace unifies all these services into a single, cohesive bundle with privacy baked in.
What is Proton Meet?
New to the union, Proton Meet is a video conferencing solution that end-to-end encrypts all your calls and chats using the new Messaging Layer Security (MLS) encryption protocol which gives Proton Meet unmatched security. Proton Meet can also be used anonymously – even without a Proton account — and keeps no logs.
“In today’s digital world, privacy shouldn’t be an optional extra, it should be the default for every conversation,” said Andy Yen, Founder and CEO of Proton. “Whether you’re talking to a doctor, hosting a business meeting, or checking in on your kids, you rightly expect these interactions to be private and safe by default. Unfortunately the dominant players like Google Meet and Zoom simply do not offer these assurances. That’s where Proton Meet comes in, combining privacy with convenience.”
Leaving America
“We see that businesses are increasingly adopting ecosystems instead of individual products and services and we’re hearing more from customers, particularly those wary of Big Tech’s data practices, that they want a secure, bundled alternative that matches the ease of migration and integration of Google or Microsoft, but without the privacy trade-offs. The launch of Proton Workspace is the next evolution of our business offerings to meet the needs of these customers.” said Yen.
The company clearly feel the suite of products meets the need for organisations seeking a genuine alternative to Big Tech, prompted at least in part by international tension and growing wariness against big tech firms who may aggressively funnel business and personal information into AI models.
“Companies are increasingly worried that their confidential business data is becoming business intelligence for Big Tech and turning to safer alternatives, ” said Andy Yen.
