Everything we know about the Apple Pencil 2

Apple has introduced the second generation of its Apple Pencil device for the iPad Pro, here is everything you need to know about the new accessory.

When did Apple introduce Apple Pencil 2?

The new accessory was introduced in New York on October 30.

What about magnets and charging?

The second-generation Apple Pencil magnetically attaches to iPad Pro and wirelessly charges at the same time. The device starts charging when you place the flat part on the right side of your iPad Pro.

What about pairing?

Apple has made a big improvement in how Apple Pencil pairs. It now pairs automatically.

What about the design?

The new Apple Pencil isn’t round like the previous device, instead it combines flat and curved surfaces to make the device easier to grip.

What about the new controls?

A new touch sensor built onto Apple Pencil detects taps, introducing an entirely new way to interact within apps. You can change tools you are using while working inside an app by double tapping here.

How does it work?

While you now pair automatically, can recharge wirelessly and have new on board controls, you’ll also find that the Pencil does what it has always done: Press harder for thicker lines, lighter for thinner ones. Create shading simply by tilting your Apple Pencil.

What are the dimensions of the Apple Pencil?

  • Length: 6.53 inches (166 mm)
  • Diameter: 0.35 inch (8.9 mm)
  • Weight: 0.73 ounce (20.7 grams)

Can you get Apple Pencil engraved when you buy online

Yes. When you purchase your Apple Pencil online you can have it custom engraved. What’s written must be short, but you could use it for your first name or a contact number in case the device is mislaid.

Which iPads is it compatible with?

You can only use Apple Pencil 2 with third edition iPad Pro models, introduced in fall 2018.

How much is Apple Pencil 2?

Apple Pencil 2 costs $129.

Watching Apple since 1999. I don't say what they should do. I say what they might do. They sometimes do.
