TLDR Today’s Apple News in brief (May 17)

Today’s key Apple news is dominated by newly leaked software features ahead of WWDC, hardware roadmaps for upcoming Apple Watches, and expanded user privacy settings.
iOS 27 and macOS 27 feature hints revealed
Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter reveals some of the major updates coming to Apple’s operating system, which will be introduced at WWDC:
- The “New Siri” Launching in Beta: The highly anticipated AI-overhauled Siri will finally arrive with iOS 27 as a beta feature in the form of an app. That matters as many AI services are now introducing apps for iPhone, suggesting Apple may let you toggle your preferred choice.
- iOS 27 will introduce Suggested Genmoji, which will automatically generate custom emoji recommendations based on yourphoto library and keyboard history.
- macOS 27 will receive a slight visual redesign to improve readability on its “Liquid Glass” user interface, and will automatically groups browser tabs in Safari.
Apple Watch Series 12
The claim is the next watch update will be relatively minor, with performance tweaks, security patches, and a new watch face. Lack of RAM means it won’t offer some advanced Siri features.
Privacy and Network Security
Limit Precise Location Expansion: Apple has expanded its Limit Precise Location feature to 10 cellular carriers, up from six at launch. This restricts cellular networks from tracking your exact street address, providing them only with neighborhood-level tracking.
