‘Apple must’ lower iPad prices, or something
Apple has an iPad problem, apparently. Overall iPad market share is slipping some analysts claim, prompting at least one commentator to deliver a rambling report in which he argues consumers are migrating to low cost “good enough” tablets. “Is the sky falling over the one-hot tablet category?” he writes. I’m sure lots of consumers are being sold these things, and I hope they have pleasant experiences, but I think this particular declaration of doom ignores the biggest iPads feature of the lot:
Longevity
iPads are great machines. They are robust and seem to simply keep on working. This means at the high end of the iPad-dominated market we have consumers who don’t feel justified in upgrading their iPad just yet. Hardly a surprise in the current challenging financial environment almost everyone in the world is enduring, (With the exception of the top 5 percent in all nations who seem to have all the money, and do not trickle that money down).
Consumers need to be convinced to put their cash down. This means I think we’ll see an iPad sales spike toward the end of the year when Apple recalibrates the so-called tablet market with new models. Right now the doom sayers are enjoying the lull before the new iPad storm.
