Counterpoint data shows iPhone’s market lead

iPhones led smartphone market share across six countries in September 2025, claims the latest data from Counterpoint. While the model varied, Apple led sales in the US, China, India, Germany, UK, and Japan, they said.
There are some interesting regional differences. For example, iPhone 17 Pro Max was the biggest selling smartphone in the US and China; while iPhone 16e led the market in Japan and iPhone 16 was the leading smartphone in India.
The data also shows some resistance to US brands in France, where Samsung’s Galaxy S25 led the charge, though followed by three breeds of iPhone 16.
In Samsung’s home turf in Korea, Apple’s iPhone 17 series too third, fourth, and fifth places behind Samsing Galaxy Z Flip and Fold 7 models. It will be interesting to see if Samsung’s leadership in Korea takes a dent on the debut of the iPhone Fold next year, though I guess Samsung will be fine if it does, given it is expected to make the displays for that device.
In a second report, Counterpoint also proved that while Apple does dominate in some ways, it remains the second place operating system behind Android in every market except the US, where it leads. Perhaps competition regulators may want to think about that as they constrain Apple’s business?
