Are you ready for iPhone XR pre-order day?

Apple shared a reminder that it will open up to take pre-orders for its new iPhone XR smartphone on Friday, October 19 at 12:01 a.m. PST on apple.com and the Apple Store app.

All the fun, less the price

While it’s hard to argue that the $749 device is cheap, Apple would likely point to it being the more affordable of its now three-strong range of new iPhones.

iPhone XR is pretty great in contrast to its siblings, too – you get a super-fast A12 Bionic chip with Neural Engine, and other breakthrough iPhone XS technologies. You also get no Home button and Face ID.

The only real compromise is the glass: while XS’ use OLED, the XR offers a 6.1-inch Liquid Retina display, which Apple does say is the most advanced LCD used in a smartphone.

The all-screen glass and aerospace-grade aluminum iPhone XR is available in six colours (black, white, blue, yellow, coral and (PRODUCT)RED).

The back of the device is also glass, which allows for wireless charging while the battery provides “all day” battery life.

An excellent camera, too

There’s lots to like about the camera.

Apple has done a lot of work to improve the software on this model iPhone and with its new image sensor and and an advanced wide-angle lens camera you should get good pictures and videos.

There’s also a new single-lens iteration of Apple’s popular Portrait Mode feature and Depth Control tools that (amazingly) lets you adjust the depth of field both in real-time preview and post-capture.

iPhone XR is water resistant, with a rating of IP67, and protects against everyday spills including coffee, tea and soda.

The device will be available in more than 50 countries and territories, and in Apple Store locations beginning Friday, October 26 at 8 a.m. local time. iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max will also be available in more than 30 countries and territories including Chile, Colombia, Malaysia and Thailand on the same day.

The device is available in 64GB, 128GB and 256GB models in black, white, blue, yellow, coral and (PRODUCT)RED starting at $749 (US).

Watching Apple since 1999. I don't say what they should do. I say what they might do. They sometimes do.
